Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 (February 27, 2010) Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small town situated in the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar to its significance. It is often believed that it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. However, it's not the case. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners weren't able to dance along with her. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." The moment I outgrew any male partner, I stopped. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. In the case of Bruce, it was her drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the school's annual production. She was chosen to play the main role of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on TV and the big screen have been numerous. The character of Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast for the season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
